Concept & Design

The print is from one of my favorite artists, Yoko Honda, who makes 80s-inspired patterns and prints. You've likely seen her patterns before on Pinterest / Tumblr / Insta and didn't know it. We share a fondness for the 80s because of its dreamy frivolity, punctuated by neon, neon, pastel. Expressive loudness was commercially popular like never before, and I think that was very important. Anyway, we decided to scale this print up to something huge because it looked good and different from the retro 80s stuff out there.

Concept & Design

This is what I imagine a crewneck sweatshirt would look like if Supreme had a baby with the Memphis Group, in the fall. I'd never really seen anybody combine floral and geometric patterns together, so I gave it a shot, but it didn't look right until I colored the floral into the sleeves. Choosing florals is pretty hard --we went with a vintage rose.

Someone on /r/vaporwaveart morphed a Polaroid VHS sleeve into an a e s t h e t i c piece. I immediately messaged him and asked if I could use it for a garment. Brings you back, doesn't it? I renamed it "Polarize"...apt for our current climate.

Windows 95 probably seemed really serious to a lot of people. I was a kid when I started using it, so I only really used it to play Math Blaster and use Paint. So Windows 95 has this childish, kid-like quality to it, which I tried to create here.

Concept & Design

When Yoko Honda sent us this print, I was floored. She chose an incredible gradient of blue, pink, and gray, and the blending of the digital strokes create this feeling of smooth, dreamy, and lavish movement. It's not quite retro, it's not quite vaporwave, it's not even your typical Yoko Honda print -- it's some beautiful combination of all three.
