            Artist Interview
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am from England and when I’m not making art I work as a chef.
How and when did you start getting into Pokemon/vaporwave art?
I’ve been making Pokemon based artwork since early 2018. Before this I mainly made surreal landscape art in the form of collage art by cutting up vintage Nat Geo magazines for several years. At some point in 2017 I began incorporating my love of the vaporwave aesthetic into this art, adding digital effects to my traditional practice.
            What inspires you?
Escapism. All of my art is about immersing myself in fictional worlds. Even as a small child I was making my own Pokemon cards and stories. I’d draw made up Pokemon maps, make pretend wanted posters for Star Wars characters, craft Lord of the Rings weapons like bows and arrows with elvish writing on them, make Harry Potter wands and pretend shopping lists for Diagon Alley and homework for Hogwarts. It was all about expanding the lore of these places I loved, blurring the boundaries between these imaginary worlds and our reality.
This caused problems when I was studying Fine Art at university, I despise conceptual art and most of the contemporary theory based art gallery world. I like simple beauty and craftsmanship. My tutors at art school were always pushing me to make political art and to try address social issues with it, which just isn’t something I ever felt comfortable doing. It was dragging the worst parts of our reality into that one sacred peaceful place I had, art.
A genuine quote from my art tutor “It’s just too nice. What do you hate? Try making art about that.” I couldn’t wait to leave, get my degree and go make the art that genuinely expresses myself. Which is what I’m doing now and surprisingly lots of other people love seeing what I make too which inspires me all the more.
What other genres of art do you like?
Aside from my beloved 90s inspirations like vaporwave, pixel art and the whole aesthetic movement I love 80s styles like outrun and synthwave. Just from a purely visual stand point I really love North Korean and Soviet artwork. There’s a bold simplicity to it that I admire and even the more traditional Korean art full of floral patterns and pastel colours.
Traditional Japanese wood block prints are sublime, as well as old Chinese ink drawings. Gothic cathedral architecture are some of the most awe inspiring structures on the planet to me. I love the photomontages of Superstudio too, an Italian architecture movement from the 60s. Anything from the retro-futurism genre excites me.
            What's your process?
It’s so wide and varied because of the number of mediums I jump between and often too chaotic, undisciplined and chance based to give a simple coherent breakdown of. I often sit down with zero plan or idea of what I’m going to make. This keeps it exciting for me.
How did you learn to do graphic design?
I studied graphic design at college for 2 years, then Fine Art at university for 3 years but honestly I learned very little in terms of technique or form. It was 95% theory. I taught myself Photoshop on an outdated French version I couldn’t understand, it was a lot of trial and error and just playing with every button and setting I could find. I learned a lot by just messing around making memes.
            What artists do you follow?
Here’s a few from my Instagram I particularly enjoy:
            • Khaled @kldpxl makes some of the best pixel art I’ve ever seen. There’s many great pixel artists I could list but he is definitely my favourite.
            • David Jien @david_jien has created a fantastical world full of characters, places and stories that are drawn and sculptured in just the most detailed, exquisite, colourful imaginative style. His art looks like pencil drawn gameboy tapestries from out of space. Fully recommend following his work.
            • @8pxl_  Again another sublime pixel artist, she particularly inspires me with her colour choices.
            • Oliver Hamlin @oliver_hamlin I regularly browse his art, it’s full of quaint, gorgeous, playful and creative watercolour paintings of Pokemon.
            • Jesse Treece @jessetreececollage is someone I’ve followed for the longest of time, learned a lot from him. Master of composition.
Do you have any other hobbies you love?
Football or soccer as some may call it. I don’t really follow it anymore but I love playing it. I’m obsessed with nutrition and food, meme culture and Youtube. I obviously love anything and everything Pokemon, the cards, the anime, the games etc. I play too much Pokemon Go.
If you could catch and have one Pokemon as a pet, which would it be and why?
100% ABRA. We could communicate telepathically. It sleeps 18 hours per day. It’s kind of like having a cat that floats and can teleport me and itself places. Maximum laziness and hates being around people, I respect it.
If you could live in any year, what year would you choose and why?
2077 so Keanu Reeves could wake me up to go burn a city.

            Comfy and cool as heck!

I am 5'4" and a size small shirt and I ordered a medium. Perfect fit! Nice and long, super soft, and the design is so cool. I've already washed it a few times and it holds up amazingly. I get so many compliments when I wear this out. Couldn't be happier. :]

Terrible Customer Service, NEVER buying again

Although your products are great... Your customer service isn't. I have been trying to get a response since the beginning of February. I have left 3 emails at two different contacts. Getting a response should not be this hard. You have really made me never want to purchase from you again. This is my fourth and last attempt.

2077 so Keanu Reeves could wake me up to go burn a city.

i love this hoodie! at first, i thought the length was going to be too long but it ended up being perfect! i absolutely love the design and ordered the dragonite hoodie in a similar style as well

the print looks good (colors & clarity)
I wish the material was a little thicker
                                overall happy with it

                                Love it!

I love this hoodie so much. It is extremely high quality and is definitely a fashion statement. I would recommend ordering a size up if you are on the edge about sizing because of the type of material, and I just prefer the baggy look anyway with hoodies for layering and such. I wish it was slightly cheaper but that is not a huge concern.

                                Gengar!

I absolutely love the design of this hoodie. Its so colorful and unique, and I love all the little details that nod to the original Pokemon. This is hands down my favorite hoodie. It did run a little small, so next time I will be ordering a size up. I also received the package a lot faster than I thought I would, so that was a major plus too!

The quality is really amazing. It’s so comfy and it looks just like it does in the pictures. Will definitely be ordering some more hoodies in the future!

2077 so Keanu Reeves could wake me up to go burn a city.

                                                  new fave ✨

I'm really happy with the Rayquaza hoodie 🐉 The interior is really soft and comfy! I was expecting the design to be more vivid, but it has a washed out, "lived-in" sort of look that I'm digging.10/10 would recommend to Rayquaza fans. This will be well-loved for years to come 💖

                                                  Cute

The Rayquaza hoodie was really cool and I like it, however I wish I had gotten a smaller size. I thought if I got a medium it would be a little roomier, but it's more than I thought. I think it's because the material is different, I'm not familiar but I know it's not Cotten, it's more shiny and smooth. I might've liked it more as a small. But the print is beautiful.

                                                            Superb

I'm in the UK - ordered on the evening of the 30th of January and arrived on the 9th February. 10/11 days for international delivery when quoted 3-5 weeks at point of order is outstanding.

The quality is fantastic, as others have said the colours are way less muted in person, but it's still a great hoodie that I will basically be living in for the foreseeable future.

                                                            Colors are off

The colors of the sweatshirt are way brighter and more vivid in person. The material is also very shiny instead of being fleece. It almost seems oversaturated. I was hoping for the more muted teal and was disappointed.

                                                            Amazing quality sweatshirt!

Print quality way exceeded my expectations, material is silky smooth and soft and the print detail is amazing. Very cozy to wear. Would suggest ordering a size up from what you think you need.

I'm a hobbyist graphic designer and editor from Romania, and currently live in Canada. I'm still a college student, but work part-time at an auto shop.

How and when did you start getting into Dragonball Z and Sonic art?
I've been drawing Sonic for as long as I could hold a pencil. Heck, there was a period of time when the only thing I drew was Sonic. That was around 2008 to 2011. After a while, I decided I wanted to draw more advanced things so I began practicing drawing anime, especially Dragon Ball, which was a favorite of mine since early childhood. After getting comfortable with the paper and pen, I decided to take it a step further and try doing things digitally. So for the past 6 years, I've been doing all kinds of digital art and designing, and just experimenting and learning as I go. And here we are now.

                                                                        What inspires you?
Seeking a feeling. When it comes to my work, I always try to make it give the observer a feeling. Most of the time, it's a feeling of nostalgic comfort. It could be a feeling of joy or excitement. When it comes down to it, I just try to make myself feel something through what I create. The way I see it, if I will feel something, there's bound to be someone out there who will feel the same way. Most of the time, my inspiration comes from seeing the art of others and try to recreate it with my own spin, then doing that over and over again until it evolves into something completely different and original.

What is your process of creating your work?
I often have no ideas if I just want to make something. I'll sit at the computer and try a hundred ideas, and nothing will feel right. Then, while I'm browsing the internet aimlessly, I'll see something which gives me an idea. I try to create the idea I have, and then I'll have a new a better version of the idea until I get to the final product. That's how it goes most of the time, but I generally start with nothing and magically end up with something. Funny how that works.

How did you learn to do graphic design?
When I was a sophomore in high school, I took a "media arts" course. In it, we learned to mess around with a lot of Adobe programs like Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects. I was a pretty quick learner when it came to Photoshop and was really impressed by its capabilities. When I got home, I bought a copy of Photoshop CS6 and began making abstract wallpapers and designs. After a while, I tried to incorporate that into my drawings and began making digital art. When I graduated high school, I took a 2 year graphical design program. I didn't learn much that I didn't know before when it came to using Photoshop, Illustrator and other such programs, but I learned a few techniques that have helped me a lot in the long run.

                                                                        What artists do you follow?
On Instagram, there's a few artists I enjoy:
                                                                        • @dragon.ball77 makes a lot of creative edits with Dragon Ball characters. Really, really aesthetically pleasing stuff. Always looking forward to his posts.
                                                                        • @gxkuh also makes some fantastic Dragon Ball edits. There's a lot of creativity behind his work and he's always inspired me to try new things with my design.
                                                                        • @itsbirdy does a ton of cool artworks, especially Pokemon and 90s anime. It's amazing what he's able to do with pencil crayons and how he takes it to the next level when he does things digitally. Always a blessing seeing his content on my feed.
                                                                        • @jongoart is a freelance artist with a lot of love for 80s and 90s anime, and has a very distinct art style. Really love his coloring techniques as well.
On Tumblr, I follow @odioart, who has given me a ton of inspiration with my designs and edits when I was burned out. He has a ton of cool content.
Do you have any other hobbies you love?
I really like cars, and driving. I've wanted to be a race car driver since I was young. However, since that never came to be, I just enjoy night time cruises with my friends and listening to music. I of course also like playing video games and watching anime. As of recently, I've really been enjoying watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Yu-Gi-Oh. Every Friday night, I have some friends come over. We order pizza and just fire up the SNES and N64 and have a night of fun. It usually is the highlight of my week.

If you could live in any year, what year would you choose and why?
I would love to go back to 1998 and buy Ocarina of Time at launch and play it all over again.

Neo Tokyo is about to explode

I've been patiently awaiting this literal one of a kind hoodie, and I was not disappointed! The fit is longer than I expected, but it honestly evens out overall. The design pairs so well with multiple outer coats or jackets that layering up for the cold is always fun when it comes into rotation. You guys have impeccable eyes for design taste

                                                                        H

                                                                        Not exactly, but still great!

I really do love this hoodie! The graphics are beautiful but the background and color of the sweatshirt is actually a baby blue color rather than grey. I was also surprised by the material thinking it would be heavier, but I love it regardless. Just a suggestion to other buyers, get yourself a size or two larger than usual because this baby is definitely fitted

Great design, looks exactly like the photos but it’s a little bit smaller than I thought, I wanted to get a baggy look but it ended up truer to size. It may be my fault because I thought it was 100% cotton

I ordered 2 hoodies so far and there are about 12 more I want because they're so good. They don't keep you super warm when it's snowing outside like it is right now for me but they keep you comfy at the very lease because they're so soft. I give these hoodies a solid 9/10 just because I wasn't expecting side pockets I spent 2 minutes looking for my pockets when I got my first one

The print on the hoodie was superb and looks like it’ll hold up for a long time. The fit was also perfect. I’d say go true to size. I’m already a fan and want to order a bunch more!

The longsleve however fit perfectly. I like how it seems thinner than other long sleeves I have, so there alot more breathability in it. 9/10

Got multiple compliments from my partner and my family. Everyone would like their own version. Material is very comfy, the cut is modern and the elastic wrists prevent the sleeves from riding up when inside your winter coat/sweater.

When I first opened my package, I was immediately ready to send it back. There's like a squiggle of color missing in one of the inside corners, and I was positive it was a printing error. I went on the item page and it's just... Part of the design. For some reason. I have no idea why. Still very comfortable and looks good but it was super disappointing to see that, whatever this is, it's just there, and there's nothing I can do about it.

2077 so Keanu Reeves could wake me up to go burn a city.

It sleeps 18 hours per day. It’s kind of like having a cat that floats and can teleport me and itself places. Maximum laziness and hates being around people, I respect it.

The hoodie is great. It's a but thin which is nice for winter in the south where I live, or I guess fall/spring up north. The main thing to watch out for is that the background color of the hoodie isnt dark gray as it appears in the pictures, but rather a dark navy blue. Regardless it looks great and the design is very vibrant and clean and stands out, plus very high quality print. Its polyester but it feels comfortable to wear.

Here’s a few from my Instagram I particularly enjoy:

                                                                                                                                                    • David Jien @david_jien has created a fantastical world full of characters, places and stories that are drawn and sculptured in just the most detailed, exquisite, colourful imaginative style. His art looks like pencil drawn gameboy tapestries from out of space. Fully recommend following his work.
                                                                                                                                                    • @8pxl_  Again another sublime pixel artist, she particularly inspires me with her colour choices.

                                                                                                                                                    • Jesse Treece @jessetreececollage is someone I’ve followed for the longest of time, learned a lot from him. Master of composition.

It sleeps 18 hours per day. It’s kind of like having a cat that floats and can teleport me and itself places. Maximum laziness and hates being around people, I respect it.

There’s many great pixel artists I could list but he is definitely my favourite.

It's a hard balance to strike and p u b l i c s p a c e have absolutely smashed it. The vaporwave vibe and the old school subject with modern graphic design practises make this stuff top end.

We could communicate telepathically. It sleeps 18 hours per day. It’s kind of like having a cat that floats and can teleport me and itself places. Maximum laziness and hates being around people, I respect it.

I ordered this Bulbasaur Hoodie and the Arizona Iced Tea Hoodie. Heads up, they run small and look like knock offs that fell off a truck in a back alley. They both look so cheap and shiny like soccer jersey material?! What? I thought I was ordering sweatshirts. Ugh. The polyester fabric is gross and not at all what I would expect for $70 each. What a giant disappointment and waste of my time and money. Can't return it because they have a zero returns policy. Steer clear. I can't understand how this company has so many 5 star ratings. Not sure how this is made in California when mine shipped from New York and I live next door to Cali in Oregon.

Not only is the material quality, the print is amazing, too! It's not one of those cheap ones where the design will chip off after too many washes.

                                                                                                                                                                                            • Jesse Treece @jessetreececollage is someone I’ve followed for the longest of time, learned a lot from him. Perfect to show my love for this aesthetic and my fav pokemon! Though, there is a possible misprint located on the head of the Porygon, a blocky white spot. BUT at least it doesn't look too off overall. Otherwise, its definitely worth the purchase!
