The iconography of Neoclassicism in vaporwave, as seen in Roman busts and Doric columns, suggests exotic otherness. But they appear alongside a series of other, seemingly random objects. The haphazard conjunction qualifies vaporwave as a successor to surrealism, one whose primary goal involves representing the kind of placelessness that comes from a life spent largely online.
